Oakland Police Narcotics Tip Line

March 19, 2007

Among a steady drip of bleak news reports about lack of follow-through by the Oakland Police Department is one ray of hope: The anonymous narcotics line. According to this MediaNews report, 80 percent of the tips lead to drugs. That means that at least 80 percent of the tips are being investigated — a major step up from the way the department has been handling home invasions and routine robberies. Last Tuesday, an anonymous tip lead to the seizure of more than $250,000 worth of marijuana at an apartment in the 1300 block of East 32nd Street, near Highland Hospital.
