$187,000 Caltrans grant for HarriOak

December 25, 2007

This is somewhat belated (but still wonderful) news about a Caltrans grant HarriOak won in October. The money will be used to help city planners figure out how to re-engineer dangerous areas of Oakland Ave and Harrison Street. Planners will be focusing on slowing down traffic and making the area more inviting to bicyclists, pedestrians and public transit
commuters.

The grant is part of $8.3 million that was given to 49 local governments, community groups and native American tribes in California. A big thanks to the City Planning Department and to Wlad Wlassowsky, the transportation services director, who helped make this happen.

We’ll be posting further details about the grant and how you can participate to make sure it leads to real change.
